Where to Travel in June
June is a great month to travel nearly anywhere in the world. While a few destinations around the equator experience their rainy season during June, it's early summer in the Northern Hemisphere and early winter in the Southern Hemisphere, making for fantastic weather nearly everywhere. While there are dozens of choices, here are my favorites across the world.
Norway translates to “the way north.” Interestingly, Norway’s climate is milder than others sharing the same latitude, like the Yukon, Finland, and even Mongolia. June is the high season for Norway and unless you’re traveling specifically for winter sports, June is one of the best times to visit this Scandinavian country. The fjords, the islands, the mountains, the entire country is alive with greenery and beauty. Also, the farther north you go, the more sunlight you have throughout the day. It’s not uncommon to have enough sunlight at midnight to read outside!
Canada makes for a great destination in June, especially if you’re escaping the heat and humidity in your area. Quebec in particular is a lovely vacation spot as it’s so diverse. You can spend time in the cities of Montreal or Quebec City. There are also dozens, probably hundreds, of remote towns, villages, and lone cabins if you want to escape the hustle and bustle. You can’t go wrong visiting Quebec in June!
Brazil is a delightful vacation destination any time of year, but June is particularly wonderful. June is the off season for most of Brazil; parts of the country are moving into the rainy season and June is the considered early winter in Brazil. Nearly every major destination, including Amazon excursions are less expensive and more available in June. It’s not nearly as hot, but still comfortable during the day, with cool evenings. June is the ideal month to visit Brazil to see everything it has to offer without dealing with the prices and crowds of the high season.
This isolated island nation far off the coast of Madagascar is one of the best places to visit in June. With beautiful beaches, reefs, mountains, and wildlife, there's something on this little paradise for everyone. With both Dutch and French influences, Mauritius is beautifully appointed and has all the modern conveniences. There are adventure activities if you want to feel your adrenaline pumping and there are plenty of opportunities for utter peace and relaxation if you're looking to escape the world for a few days. In June, Mauritius' weather is perfect - dry and tropical. But, given it's location in the southern hemisphere, you'll have cooler breezes to counter the intense sunlight.
Pro Tip: If you're traveling from North America, it's best to fly to Dubai and connect in Dubai. Other routes may have more than three connections allowing for more delays, missed flights, and more potential for customs delays.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur in June is hot and full of sunshine. With minimal rainfall and temperatures averaging in the 80s (F), Kuala Lumpur makes a unique June destination. The economy is strong and it's one of the most metropolitan cities in Southeast Asia boasting all the modern conveniences. You can stay anywhere from low-key hostels to the finest luxury hotel brands in the world. Be sure to visit the Petronas Towers while you're there. They were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 - 2004 and remain the world's tallest twin towers. At the buildings alone, you'll find a park with trails, playgrounds, and fountains, a skybridge connecting the two towers, high-street style shopping, art gallery, and an underwater aquarium!
Who doesn't want to visit Tahiti? Tahiti in June is one of the ideal times to visit this island nation. The weather is at its coolest on average, but still warm due to the tropical climate. In addition to Tahiti proper, Bora Bora is part of the island nation, famous for it's over-the-water hotel rooms at the Four Seasons. Tahiti is widely regarded as one of the new natural wonders of the world and is credited with making black sand beaches desirable. The easiest way to get to Tahiti is to fly into Papeete, the capital, from Los Angeles, Sydney, Auckland, or Honolulu.
Islands, mountains, cities, or country, there's something for everyone in June. Happy Travels!!
